In France, law enforcement officers detained more than 400 people on suspicion of deliberately or accidentally starting forest fires that caused extensive destruction in the country. This is reported by the BBC, according to UNN.
Details
It is reported that the country’s Ministry of the Interior said that 166 minors were among the 420 people detained.
In one case, a 23-year-old man was accused of deliberately starting 10 fires over five days in the southeastern Var region last month. He faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of €150,000
It is noted that arson accounts for only a small proportion of the fires. Most are considered accidental; sparks can be caused by construction work, faulty electrical equipment, cigarette butts, and barbecues.

The day before, Canadian authorities ordered the evacuation of the city of Summerland in British Columbia because of the uncontrolled Bald Range wildfire, which covered more than 5,000 hectares. The fire was caused by hot, dry weather and strong winds.
