Russia's attack on March 22 caused the worst damage to the Kharkiv region's energy infrastructure during the war. Currently, the region is working to reduce the time without electricity to 4 hours a day.  UNN reports this with reference to the Telegram channel of RMA Head Oleh Sinegubov and a statement by Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, who was requested by the department.

The day before, the Head of the RMA and the Head of the Ministry of Energy inspected the damaged power generating infrastructure of Kharkiv region.

The damage is significant, not only at generation facilities but also at electricity transmission facilities.  Outage schedules are still in effect - we are working to reduce the time without power to 4 hours a day

- said Sinegubov.

He said that the region has reached the peak of its capabilities in terms of  connections of household consumers - we have now reached the peak of our capabilities.

Currently, experts continue to analyze the situation to further understand the timing and cost of the restoration.

In his turn, Herman Halushchenko emphasized that the Russian attack on March 22 caused the greatest damage to the energy infrastructure of Kharkiv region during the war.

This is the largest scale of destruction that Kharkiv and Kharkiv region has ever seen, even if we compare it to 2022-2023. There is extensive damage to power generation and transmission facilities. The relevant services are working 24/7 to clear the rubble and gain access to the equipment. After that, we will understand whether the equipment can be repaired or whether we need to order new ones

- said the head of the Ministry of Energy.

Mr. Galushchenko noted that Ukraine already has experience of cooperation with international partners and energy equipment manufacturers to order and produce the equipment needed to restore the facilities. At the same time, he noted that this is a complicated process, as large power equipment requires a long production time.

Addendum

Oleg Sinegubov also emphasized that the authorities and power engineers are doing everything possible to ensure that the next heating season in Kharkiv and the region starts on time and goes according to plan.

"We have to think about restoring CHPP-5, but it will take years. It will not happen tomorrow, or in a month or two, because the damage is quite serious. And along with the restoration of large generating facilities, we have to think about an alternative. We have to implement a number of relevant projects before the next winter heating season," the head of the region said.
