In the Sumy region, a 27-year-old driver has been served a notice of suspicion for causing a fatal road accident in Okhtyrka while intoxicated. The road traffic accident occurred on May 14, 2026, at approximately 11:30 PM on Kholodnoyarska Street. The man, driving a Honda, was traveling with his wife and three young children.
At an intersection, the suspect attempted to overtake a vehicle traveling in the same direction, entered the oncoming lane, and collided with a BMW. Following the impact, the Honda veered onto the shoulder and crashed into parked vehicles.
A one-month-old boy died as a result of the accident. Two other children, aged 3 and 4, sustained injuries; the younger child was hospitalized.
It was established that the Honda driver was in a state of alcohol intoxication. By court order, a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail has been selected for him.
