Law enforcers exposed a pseudo-rehabilitation center in Khmelnytskyi region where 44 people, including Ukrainian military, were illegally detained. Four people were served a notice of suspicion of illegal deprivation of liberty.

Law enforcement officers in Khmelnytsky region exposed a pseudo-rehabilitation center where 44 people were illegally detained. Among the patients were members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Four people have been notified of suspicion. UNN reports this with reference to the regional prosecutor's office. 

Details

According to prosecutors,  a resident of Lviv founded a pseudo-rehabilitation center in Khmelnytsky region to help people with various kinds of addictions. Together with three accomplices, he rented a residential building with a land plot.

“Clients” were searched for on the Internet or among friends. They also distributed advertisements for help in overcoming addiction and treating PTSD. The cost of the “services” averaged 20 thousand UAH per month. The “treatment” was paid for by close relatives.

Among the “patients” were members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. While on leave, they sought help at the insistence of their families. Those who did not agree to go to a rehabilitation facility voluntarily were taken by force

- said the prosecutor's office.

Reportedly, the victims did not receive treatment. Moreover, they could not leave the facility of their own free will, as they were locked in guarded rooms and their documents were confiscated. Contacts with the outside world were strictly limited. They were not allowed to use the telephone. 

Among the 44 dependents in the institution, there were 3 minors.

 4 people were served a notice of suspicion of illegal deprivation of liberty and abduction committed by an organized group (Article 146(3)(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Pre-trial restraints in the form of detention with the possibility of bail have been imposed on all the defendants.
