Five men convicted of the murder in Ecuador of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, shot dead in Quito in August 2023, have been sentenced to heavy prison terms.
Angulo and Castillo were sentenced to 34 years and eight months. Erick Ramirez, Victor Flores and Alexandra Chimbo were sentenced to 12 years.

According to the verdict, Victor Flores was responsible for securing the motorcycle on which the hitman who shot Villavicencio was riding, while Alexandra Chimbo was supposed to warn the shooters of the candidate's departure. Eric Ramirez, for his part, took care of the logistics at the murder scene.
