Feeling low on energy? Drowsy? Reaching for a candy bar or drinking coffee? Try using the advice of WebMD experts instead of sweets or caffeine, writes UNN.
1. Eat breakfast. People who eat breakfast every morning report less fatigue and stress than those who skip it. High-fiber foods, such as oatmeal, satiate better and last longer than sugary muffins.
2. Perform the downward facing dog pose. Some studies have shown that yoga can be a great way to combat fatigue.
3. Sing your favorite tune or song. Singing gives you a kind of emotional high while reducing the level of stress hormones in your body.
4. Drink water. Dehydration can make you feel exhausted and tired. You don't have to follow the "eight glasses a day" rule, but you do need to drink enough water to keep your body water balanced. Incorporate a glass of water every few hours into your daily routine.
5. Eat nuts. Eat a handful of almonds or peanuts, which are rich in magnesium and folate (folic acid). These nutrients are essential for energy and cell production. A lack of these nutrients in your body can make you feel tired.
6. Take a cinnamon stick. Some people say that even a simple whiff of this fragrant spice can relieve fatigue and make them more alert.
You can try using mint instead of cinnamon.
7. Get moving. Exercise is a natural source of energy because whenever you do it, oxygen-rich blood rushes to your heart, muscles, and brain. Incorporating regular exercise into your day - even if you can only spare 10 minutes at a time - will help you keep your energy levels at their peak. Get moving every chance you get, even if it's just walking in circles while talking on the phone.
8. Let the sunshine in. Studies show that just a few minutes of walking outside on a warm, clear day can improve your mood, memory, and ability to absorb new information. If you can't get out at all, at least open the curtains.
9. Have a snack. Your brain needs fuel to function at its best. When blood sugar levels drop, you may experience decreased concentration, sleepiness, fatigue, even dizziness. So, if you suddenly feel drowsy during the day, try eating something. Snacks that combine protein with slow-digesting carbohydrates - like banana slices with peanut butter or granola with fresh berries - are best.
10. Socialize with upbeat friends. Emotions are surprisingly contagious. People who are constantly negative and depressed can suck the energy out of you, while those who are always upbeat and excited can add to your energy.
