British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that he will resign as leader of the British Conservative Party, speaking on Downing Street after the convincing victory of the Labor Party in the country's elections, UNN reports with reference to Bloomberg and the BBC.
Details
Rishi Sunak will resign as leader of the Conservatives, but not immediately, as he announced after the party's election defeat.
According to the BBC, he will resign only when there are official agreements on a successor.
Sunak reportedly paid tribute to his rival, Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labor Party, whose success, he said, would be shared by the country.
On Friday, Sunak and then Starmer will travel to Buckingham Palace for an audience with King Charles III.
As the BBC writes, Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty have arrived at Buckingham Palace. Sunak is having an audience with the King and will tender his resignation to the monarch.
