Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has announced the creation of a new council, which, according to her, will deal with the preparation of new parliamentary elections, UNN reports with reference to Novosti Georgia.
"A document is already being prepared, and tomorrow it will most likely be ready - it will describe all the minimum conditions for holding elections that will take place very soon... These new elections will be really new, new forces will probably appear. We have to be ready for all of this," Zurabishvili said.
The day before, at a rally, she gave the ruling party six days to set a date for new elections, a demand Georgian Dream called ridiculous and ignored.
"The crisis is getting worse and deeper every day, and the ruling party either doesn't see it, or even more, I would say that it closes its eyes, doesn't want to see it, and acts as if everything is fine. As if the main thing is to illuminate the city or organize a Christmas village, or put up a Christmas tree, or organize a concert - when no one is in a festive mood. Even those who consider themselves to have won," Zurabishvili said.
She emphasized that no matter how much the "ruling party" turns a blind eye to the situation in the country, "it cannot change this reality, and the reality is what is in front of us, what we all see, feel and what we will have to fix. it is a crisis.
It is still unclear how Zurabishvili intends to act on December 29, two days before the New Year, when Georgian Dream has scheduled the inauguration of the new president, the newspaper notes.
At the same time, Zurabishvili said today that if no agreement is reached with Georgian Dream on new parliamentary elections by December 29, after December 29 "we will reach elections by the fall of the regime." She did not explain what form of "regime collapse" she was referring to, but reiterated that she does not intend to resign as president.
