Finland will not open the land border with Russia after April 14, all checkpoints will be closed "until further notice." The decision was made at a government meeting on April 4, UNN reports with reference to the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The government has decided that the checkpoints on the land border between Finland and Russia will remain closed from April 15, 2024

- the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a post on the social network X.

It is noted that, based on information provided by the state authorities, the risk of renewed and expanded migration, as observed earlier, remains high.  If this phenomenon continues, it will pose a serious threat to national security and public order in Finland.

In addition, starting from April 15, the border crossing points of Hapasaari, Nuijamaa harbor and the Santio waterway will be closed to recreational boats. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the decision will remain in force until further notice, but not longer than necessary.

"The Finnish authorities believe that this is a long-term situation. Russia has hundreds and possibly thousands of people in areas adjacent to the Finnish border who could be transferred to Finland," said Finnish Interior Minister Mari Rantanen.

It is also reported that the Navy, in cooperation with other ministries, is studying alternative measures to stop migration. An anti-intrusion law is currently being drafted and is expected to be submitted to parliament as soon as possible.

Recall

In February, the Finnish government decided to extend the closure of the border with Russia for another two months, until April 14.
