The court remanded in custody the driver of a BMW suspected of committing a drunken car accident that killed 7 people, including a child. UNN reports this with reference to the OGP.
"...a 24-year-old resident of Lviv district was served a notice of suspicion of violating traffic safety rules while intoxicated, which caused the death of several people (Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement said.
The 31-year-old passenger of the car was also served a notice of suspicion, who is charged with failure to provide assistance to the victims in a life-threatening condition and failure to report it to the relevant authorities, which caused the death of people (Part 3 of Article 136 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
"The driver of the BMW and his passenger were identified and detained by law enforcement officers. The driver of the BMW was imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention without the right to be released on bail. The passenger was detained in custody with the right to be released on bail," the OGP informs.
Investigative actions are currently underway, and a number of examinations have been ordered.

According to the investigation, the tragedy occurred on the morning of December 15, 2024, near the village of Chyzhykiv. The suspect, driving a BMW while intoxicated, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a DAF road train. As a result, the uncontrolled truck collided with a Mercedes Sprinter minibus. The BMW driver and his passenger fled the scene.
Seven passengers in the minibus were killed in the accident. The drivers of the train and the minibus, as well as a passenger of the latter, were injured and hospitalized.
