An international special tribunal for the prosecution of war crimes may be established by the end of 2024, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said in an interview with DW, UNN reports .
According to the European Commissioner, two main options are being considered for the creation of a special tribunal: a multilateral agreement or a simplified solution based on a bilateral agreement between Ukraine and the Council of Europe.
In addition, he noted that the EU has created a new system for transferring legal proceedings. Thus, if a criminal trial is ongoing in Ukraine, in particular for the crime of aggression, it can be transferred to a similar special tribunal. Reynders believes that the creation of the tribunal is at the final stage.
"The next step is a matter of political will. It's only the beginning of the year, and by the end of the year it should be possible," he summarized.
