Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine's environment has suffered damages worth over 7 trillion hryvnias. This amount continues to grow daily, reports UNN citing the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.

Details

This concerns soil, water and air pollution, loss of biodiversity, destruction of ecosystems, impact on wetlands, Emerald Network territories and nature reserve fund, as well as the undermining of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant

- the ministry's press service reported.

Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi noted: the Russian damage to Ukraine's environment has a transboundary nature, as air constantly moves and affects neighboring European Union member states.

In addition, a significant reserve of drinking water in eastern and southern Ukraine was lost as a result of the Russians' undermining of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in the Kherson region in the summer of 2023.

Ukraine can record the consequences of Russian crimes, we can issue bills to Russia and maximum measures are being taken to minimize these impacts, but, again, the war makes its own adjustments. We speak on all international platforms about the fact that the Russian Federation is causing us harm. I want to say more: the Russian Federation is trying to report on emissions into the atmospheric air using our occupied territories, that is, at climate conferences it tries to use our captured territories, but Ukrainian delegations are always present there. We always block this story and involve our international partners to help block it, so as not to allow Russia to legitimize these captured territories

- said Krasnolutskyi.

Suspects in the Kakhovka HPP explosion case may be named by the end of the year - Prosecutor General's Office06.06.26, 16:30
