Unmanned systems outperform conventional weapons on the battlefield. The Ukrainian Armed Forces need to improve their drones and cooperate with manufacturers to develop systems capable of operating at different depths.

Unmanned systems are superior to classical weapons on the battlefield, said Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel Andriy Lebedenko during a conference within the Precision hackathon, UNN reports citing the General Staff.

Details

According to Lebedenko, there have been significant technological shifts on the battlefield over the past almost three years.  Unmanned systems on the battlefield "already outperform classical weapons, including artillery, in terms of efficiency.

Accordingly, the priority areas for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and arms manufacturers are also technological. These include interceptors, artillery fire adjustment systems, counter-battery warfare, and unmanned systems that can effectively operate at operational (up to 100 km) and strategic depths (over 100 km).

As noted, the AFU needs to constantly improve unmanned systems - machine vision, artificial intelligence elements, drone swarms, and modern electronic warfare equipment.

The conference  also discussed the need to improve the interaction between the state and private manufacturers. The newly created command of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the leadership of Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi will allow to intensify this interaction.

Sukharevsky told us what challenges the newly created command currently faces.

"If we talk about aerial drones operating at tactical depths (up to 20 km), the Armed Forces have tremendous experience and capabilities in this area - more than 165 aerial vehicles alone. We are currently communicating with manufacturers and identifying ways to improve this depth. And we urge manufacturers to join us, visit our training grounds and together improve the weapons and equipment necessary for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces called.

"Today, the Commander-in-Chief has set the task of integrated use of robotic systems and UAVs on the battlefield. For example, to replace a platoon stronghold with technological systems when personnel are outside the danger zone. We can have a technological advantage that will allow us to win," emphasized Lebedenko.
