The Russian prosecutor's office has requested sentences ranging from 16 to 24 years for 24 prisoners of war from the Azov regiment. Among the accused are 9 women who worked as cooks, two have already been exchanged and are being tried in absentia.

The Russian prosecutor's office is demanding terms of 16 to 24 years in prison for 24 prisoners of war from the Ukrainian Azov regiment, for all men - in high-security facilities. This UNN reports with reference to Mediazonu.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has started debates on the case of 24 prisoners of war from the Ukrainian Azov regiment.

“The prosecutor's office has requested sentences of 16 to 24 years in prison for the defendants, for all the men - in high-security institutions,” the report reads.

Nine of the defendants are women. Two Ukrainians have already been exchanged, so they are being tried in absentia. Another one, Oleksandr Ishchenko, died in the pre-trial detention center and the case against him was dropped.

It is noted that the eight women in the dock in Rostov worked as cooks and prepared food for the military. Some were captured in Mariupol, others were detained during filtration when they tried to leave the city occupied by Russia after heavy fighting in the spring of 2022.

Supplement

For more than a year, since May 6, 2023, not a single fighter of “Azov” was not in the exchanges. This was stated by an officer of the National Guard regiment “Azov”, former prisoner of war Vladyslav Dutchak with the call sign “Docent”. The Coordination Headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war noted that a cynical and despicable battle is being waged by the Russians in matters of negotiation and they deliberately do not give them up.
