Why penguins steal pebbles: Ukrainian polar explorers show a cute and informative video

Ukrainian polar explorers showed a video of penguins stealing pebbles and told why, UNN reports.

"Stealing pebbles is a common thing for sub-Antarctic penguins living on our Galindez Island. Because of this, they often have quarrels and even fights," the National Antarctic Science Center's website says.

The polar explorers reminded that pebbles are the main building material for the nests of these penguins. Every year it becomes more and more difficult to get it, because the number of penguins on Galindega is growing, but the number of stones is not.

Instead of looking for building materials elsewhere, clever birds steal them from neighbors. Anna Soiniy, a participant of the 29th UAE, managed to capture this moment on video.

One penguin successfully moved pebbles from someone else's nest to his own until his owner came along. Even then, the thief did not decide to stop until he received a formidable warning.

The activists also called for attention to the behavior of other penguins who witnessed the "crime". They just watched everything calmly, because it did not affect their nests.
