In the former capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty, local activist Abzal Dostiyarov was summoned to the district police department on July 4 after he and his associates planned to honor the memory of Kazakh opposition activist and journalist Aidos Sadykov, reports UNN with reference to Radio Liberty.

In mid-June, an attempt was made on Sadykov's life in Kyiv: he was seriously wounded and died in early July.

The action was to take place in Karagaily Park in Almaty. In a comment to the Kazakh service of Radio Liberty/Azattyk, a police representative confirmed that Abzal Dostiyarov had been summoned for a "preventive conversation". Later, the activist, who came to the police with his lawyer, was released.

According to the oppositionist's associates, immediately after the announcement of the action, the park, where it was planned to honor Sadykov's memory, was surrounded by police. The activists reported that they were not allowed to enter the park area because of the work of special equipment. A police officer told a Radio Liberty reporter that landscaping work was allegedly taking place in the park.
