The city of Obeid in Sudan's Kordofan region could face a humanitarian catastrophe within the next few weeks if urgent aid does not arrive. This was stated by a representative of the UN International Organization for Migration in Sudan, reports Yle, writes UNN.

According to the organization, Obeid has been under siege for several months by the paramilitary group "Rapid Support Forces" (RSF), which is one of the parties to the civil war in Sudan.

The conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army has been ongoing since 2023 and has caused a massive humanitarian crisis in the country.

Humanitarian organizations have suspended aid deliveries

The IOM reported that previously humanitarian organizations had periodic access to the city and could deliver necessary aid to local residents.

However, due to the deteriorating security situation on the main supply routes, humanitarian missions were forced to temporarily suspend their operations.

The UN emphasizes that without restoring access for humanitarian aid, the situation in Obeid could sharply deteriorate in the near future.
