The crash, involving two military aircraft, occurred in Meretz-i-Mozel in the middle of the day on Wednesday, and "the search for the pilots has begun," the prefecture said in a press release.
No casualties were reported.
"The military authorities will provide information on the cause of the accident," the statement added, explaining that "further information will be provided as soon as any new information becomes available.
According to the regional newspaper L'Est Républicain, "two Mirage aircraft" were involved in the crash.
