The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to ask Congress for more than $1.4 billion to combat the Ebola outbreak. The funds are to be part of a broader package of additional funding, Reuters reports, writes UNN.

Of the requested amount, $800 million is planned to be directed to humanitarian response, including funding for a quarantine center in Kenya for Americans who may have been exposed to the virus, as well as for treatment, medical supplies, contact tracing, and logistical support.
More than a billion dollars to contain the virus
Another $500 million is proposed to be allocated for measures to prevent the spread of Ebola in the United States. This includes epidemiological surveillance, development of laboratory capacity, cross-border coordination, and cooperation with international organizations. An additional $90 million is to go toward diplomatic and evacuation measures for U.S. citizens.

The request comes amid the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to the World Health Organization, the virus has already infected more than 1,000 people and caused 267 deaths. Additional concern was raised by the first confirmed case of the disease in France, linked to the current outbreak in Congo.
