The separatist region of Moldova said that a kamikaze drone attacked a military facility belonging to the so-called Ministry of Defense of Transnistria. This statement was made by the military of the unrecognized republic on Friday, April 5. Their words were quoted by Reuters, UNN reports.

The target was a radar station, which sustained minor damage but no casualties. An investigative team is working at the scene. Criminal proceedings have been opened.

- the statement said.

Details

The separatist ministry did not name the perpetrator of the attack. It is noted that the target was six kilometers from the border with Ukraine, which has been fighting the Russian invasion for more than two years, and the nearest front lines are about 200 kilometers east of Moldova.

A video shown on television in the separatist region shows a drone attack with the sound of an explosion, but no evidence of damage to buildings or military equipment.

Recall

Note that this incident was the second of its kind in less than a month. In March  , the security agency of the "Transnistrian Moldovan Republic" reported that a kamikaze drone had attacked a military unit near Tiraspol.

At the same time, Moldova's Bureau of Reintegration Policy stated that Ukraine was not involved in the drone attack on a military unit in the unrecognized republic of Transnistria.

The representative of the Ukrainian GUR Andriy Yusov statedthat this kamikaze drone attack on a military unit near Tiraspol is a Russian provocation. He added that in this way Russia wants to destabilize the situation in the region.

For reference

Transnistria is a separatist republic with a dominant Russian-speaking population on the territory of Moldova. In the early 1990s, they refused to be loyal to the authorities in Chisinau and after a short war accompanied by Russian intervention, they gained autonomy. Transnistria has its own president, army, security forces, tax services, and currency. However, almost all European countries still do not recognize this republic. Russia itself has not recognized Transnistria's independence, although it still supports it economically and politically.

It should be noted that about 1,500 Russian soldiers are officially stationed in Transnistria.
