A Russian military intelligence agent, assistant driver of a Ukrzaliznytsia locomotive, was detained in Kharkiv region for spying on military trains transporting Ukrainian weapons and ammunition to the front line and passing their routes to Russian troops.

The Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian military intelligence agent in Kharkiv region who was spying on the military echelons of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. This was reported by the SBU press service, UNN reports .

The attacker was an assistant locomotive engineer at a regional branch of Ukrzaliznytsia, who was remotely recruited by an employee of the 78th Intelligence Center of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (known as Gru),

Details

On the instructions of the Russian Federation, the agent collected information about the railroad routes used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to transport heavy weapons and ammunition to the front line.

Being in the locomotive cab, the traitor covertly recorded the directions of movement of trains with Ukrainian weapons. In case of receiving relevant intelligence, the occupiers planned to use it to prepare missile and drone strikes on the region's railway infrastructure. In this way, the Russians hoped to disrupt the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukrainian defenders.

SBU counterintelligence disrupted the enemy's plans and detained the suspect when he tried to pass a "report" to the aggressor.

It was also established that the traitor tried to identify the locations of fortifications and fortifications of Kharkiv's defenders.

According to the investigation, the railroad worker was "noticed" by the game as an active user of pro-Kremlin Telegram channels, where he posted his anti-Ukrainian comments.

During the searches in the railroad car where the traitor worked and in his apartment, mobile phones and SIM cards with evidence of criminal activity were seized.

Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
