Chef Yevhen Klopotenko's cooking show was filmed in the Refectory Hall of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, which is a historic part of the architectural complex. This hall is not a church and has always been used for celebrations: spiritual, cultural, and educational. This was stated by the General Director of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra" Maxim Ostapenko, reports UNN.

"Recently, controversial statements about a charity event organized by the Real History project team to popularize the Ukrainian Christmas tradition have begun to spread in the public space. The event featured the filming of the 1+1 Zdiysny Mriyu social project, which fulfills the dreams of children of fallen soldiers," Ostapenko wrote.

He noted that it is necessary to clarify the situation to avoid misunderstandings.

"First, we would like to emphasize that the event was held in the Refectory Hall, which is a historical part of the architectural complex and has served as a place for a common meal since its foundation in the late 19th century. This hall is not a church and has always been used for celebrations: spiritual, cultural and educational.  This fully complies with the current legislation and requirements for the operation of historical and cultural monuments, and in no way harms the 20th century painting," Ostapenko said.

Ostapenko said that the Lavra regrets that this event caused misunderstandings and could have hurt the religious feelings of believers.

"The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is a sacred place for every Ukrainian, and we always strive to maintain a balance between preserving the spiritual heritage and popularizing it. Secondly, Russia and pro-Russian forces systematically use the Lavra in their propaganda and ISIS to stir up controversy and divide Ukrainians. We urge everyone to verify information and be attentive to provocations that are often spread by the enemy," Ostapenko said.

He noted that the administration of the Reserve is always ready for an open dialogue and will continue to work to ensure that this sacred space remains a place of spiritual unity, preservation of historical heritage and cultural enrichment.
