According to analysts' estimates, the $40 billion figure includes costs for ammunition, lost equipment, and damage to military bases. At the same time, this figure does not account for operational costs that were already included in the US defense budget for fiscal year 2026.
In addition to the Pentagon, other government agencies also incurred additional costs. According to CSIS, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Veterans Affairs spent about $1 billion due to the consequences of the conflict.
Americans spent more due to more expensive fuel
During the war, the average price of gasoline in the US rose from less than $3 per gallon to over $4.
According to the Brown University Cost of War project, each American household spent an average of $253 more than it would have in the absence of the conflict.
The war also affected the global oil market. According to Kpler, due to disruptions in oil supplies from the Middle East, the global market lost about 1.15 billion barrels of crude oil.
