The Verkhovna Rada is planning to consider draft law No.11150, which provides for the extension of the term for registration of ownership of land shares, UNN reports, citing the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada.

Context

According to the current legislation, owners of unclaimed land shares or their heirs who have not managed to register their ownership of a land share must do so by January 1, 2025. People who fail to do so will be deemed to have refused to receive a land plot. Ownerless land will be transferred to the communal ownership of the territorial community where it is located.

What is offered in the Rada

The draft law proposes to extend from 2025 to 2028 the deadline for registration of unclaimed (unallocated) land plots and distribution of land plots between owners of land shares and their heirs of land remaining in collective ownership after the distribution of land plots.

The initiators of the draft law explain that in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the occupation of large parts of the country, and the departure of a large part of the Ukrainian population abroad are objective circumstances that make it impossible for owners of land shares to comply with the current deadlines. Therefore, it is advisable to extend it.

Addendum

According to Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Denys Bashlyk, the total area of unclaimed land shares is estimated at 400 thousand hectares. The number of citizens who have not properly registered their land shares is estimated at about 65 thousand.
