The US and G7 privately urge Israel to refrain from retaliating against Iran's attacks to avoid escalation, but Israel is considering options for retaliation.

The Biden administration and G7 leaders are privately urging Israel not to rush into a massive retaliation for Iran's attack. Israel has not made a decision, but further discussions should take place in the coming days - options for possible actions are being considered. This was reported by UNN with reference to Axios and Welt.

Details

On Sunday, US President Joe Biden held a video conference with the leaders of the G7 countries. According to Axios's own sources, all leaders are concerned about a possible Israeli response that would lead to an escalation. It was decided that all G7 countries would ask Israel not to take steps that could lead to escalation.

At the same time, in a statement after the meeting, the G7 leaders condemned Iran's attack on Israel and expressed "full solidarity and support for Israel and its people and reaffirmed our commitment to their security.

According to media reports, Israel's leadership has not yet decided how to respond to Iran's attack over the weekend. The military cabinet did not decide on further actions during more than three hours of discussions on Sunday afternoon. Further discussions are expected to take place in the coming days, Axios news portal reported, citing an Israeli official. Several options for possible Israeli retaliation were discussed at the meeting.

Recall

On the night of March 14, Iran launched a direct attack on Israel for the first time in the history of the Islamic Republic. The Israeli army reported about 300 missiles, drones and cruise missiles, almost all of which were intercepted.

Iran has presented the operation, called "True Promise," as a retaliatory strike against the assassination of high-ranking officers in Syria. On April 1, two brigadier generals were killed in an airstrike on the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus, allegedly carried out by Israel.

According to U.S. estimates, Iran will respond to any significant open Israeli strike on Iranian territory with a new series of missile and drone attacks, Axios writes.

Earlier , UNN reported that the Israeli military was preparing a number of options for response, including potential strikes, for consideration by the government after Iran's massive missile strike, and a decision should be made in the coming days.
