The Holy Synod has named the 142nd Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia; Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) has been chosen, UNN reports with reference to "News Georgia."

Shio received an overwhelming majority—22 votes from the bishops present at the meeting.
Metropolitan Iov (Akiashvili) of Urbnisi and Ruisi received 9 votes, and Metropolitan Grigol (Berbichashvili) of Poti and Khobi received 7 votes.
One vote was declared invalid.
The newly elected Patriarch Shio III announced that the enthronement ceremony will take place on May 12 at the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta.
