According to Juan Manuel Mendes, director of the Emergency Operations Center, the death toll from the collapse of the "Jet Set" roof has risen to 98, the publication said.
City authorities said that among the victims was Nelsi Cruz, a Major League Baseball player and governor of the northwestern province of Montecristi, along with his sister.
She called the president and reported that she was trapped and that the roof had collapsed. This is too great a tragedy
Officials said Cruz died later in the hospital.
MLB pitcher Octavio Dotel also died. This was reported by the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League on its X page. Dotela was pulled from the rubble and taken to hospital, but could not be saved.
Dominican baseball player Tony Enrique Blanco Cabrera also died, said league spokesman Satoski Terrero.
Officials said that national legislator Bray Vargas was also among those injured.
Relatives of Merenge singer Rubby Perez, who was performing when the roof collapsed, initially said he had been rescued. However, Emergency Operations Center Director Juan Mendes later said this was not true and rescuers were still searching for Perez.
The publication notes that Perez's manager Enrique Paulino said that the roof that collapsed at the club killed the band's saxophonist.
"It happened so fast. I managed to corner myself," he said, adding that he initially thought it was an earthquake.
In a comment to CDN, prosecutor Rosalba Ramos said that although "everyone wants to know" what happened, authorities are still focused on finding survivors.
A makeshift morgue was set up near the club. More than 120 people lined up to donate blood at two different medical centers in the city.
