Keir Starmer, the expected next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, assured that support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression will remain unchanged if he takes office.

Last February, Starmer traveled to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to emphasize Labor's commitment to supporting the country in its fight against Russian aggression.

At the time, he said that the UK's position on Ukraine would remain unchanged in the event of a government change in 2024.

"The last thing anyone in Ukraine wants is to see political parties in the UK arguing about what is a matter of life or death for them," Starmer said on Sunday.

He visited the suburbs of Irpin and Bucha in the Kyiv region. According to him, he went to Ukraine to express solidarity with Ukrainians  and to emphasize the need to achieve justice and compensation for the perpetrators. "There must be justice. There must be justice in The Hague, and there must be proper reparations for the restoration of Ukraine," he said.

Speaking after his conversation with Zelenskiy, Starmer said it was a "constructive meeting".

"We talked about the need for this justice to encompass both the use of Russian state assets for reconstruction and the need to prosecute war crimes," Starmer said.

"I was able to tell him that in the event of a change of government in the general election, support for Ukraine will remain unchanged. This is a very important message for me, and I was able to convey it to the president face-to-face, which I did," he said.
