Two young men in Kyiv were selling counterfeit US dollars in denominations of 100, offering them for half their real value. According to the investigation, they were distributing high-quality banknotes and preparing large-scale deliveries for clients. This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, writes UNN.
Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, two 23-year-old men have been notified of suspicion of illegal storage, transportation, and sale of counterfeit US dollars.
It was established that the accomplices were selling counterfeit American currency in Kyiv in 100-dollar bills. The counterfeits were of high quality. They were sold to clients for half their face value, meaning buyers had to pay 500 real US dollars for 1000 counterfeit dollars.
Initially, clients were offered to purchase a small amount, and later they were ready to sell up to 100,000 US dollars. Currently, facts of selling counterfeits totaling 2,000 US dollars have been documented.
Two men have been notified of suspicion of storing, acquiring, transporting, and selling counterfeit foreign currency, committed repeatedly by a group of persons in prior conspiracy (Parts 1, 2 of Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with confiscation of property.
