A fraudulent scheme involving the substitution of QR codes for payment has become more active in Ukraine. Attackers replace real codes with their own to redirect users to fake websites and steal bank details. This is reported by UNN with reference to the Government portal.

It is noted that the attackers use fake websites disguised as official pages.
Fraudsters replace real QR codes with their own in places where services are paid for. The purpose of the fraud is to force you to enter personal banking details on a fake website
According to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, fraudulent QR codes are most often placed in public transport, parking meters, catering establishments, and on advertisements.
The Government also gave advice on how to protect yourself:
- Configure your browser to block malicious links.
- Use antivirus software and check suspicious sites.
- Do not follow dubious links and do not enter personal data without verification.
- In case of suspicious circumstances - contact the bank at the official number.
- Report fraudulent schemes to the cyber police.
