The Romanian Ministry of National Defense confirmed on Thursday that it had identified wreckage of a Russian-origin UAV in the vicinity of Plauru in Tulcea County, an area where alerts have been issued due to Russian attacks on Ukraine, and on Thursday night, as on the previous night, fighter jets, this time F-18s of the Finnish Air Force, were launched to monitor the airspace against the background of the Russian drone attack on Ukraine near the Romanian border, UNN reports.
Details
"On the night of July 24-25, Russian troops resumed a series of drone attacks on civilian targets and port infrastructure in Ukraine near the border with Romania. In response to this situation, the Romanian Ministry of Defense stepped up monitoring and surveillance of the national airspace by the Air Police Combat Service. Starting at 1:32 a.m., two Finnish Air Force F-18s took off from the 57th Mihailo Kogelnicăniu Air Base to monitor the air situation. The aircraft returned to the base around 3:25 am," the statement said.
Also, the National Military Command Center of the country, as noted, notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the country to introduce warning measures for the population of Tulcea County. "As a result, at about 01:20, an RO-Alert message was received, and at 02:13 it was announced that the warning measures had been terminated in all affected areas," the statement said.
"Currently, teams of the Romanian Ministry of Defense are conducting an on-site investigation to find possible objects that fell on the territory of the country as a result of attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure over the past two nights," the Romanian Ministry of Defense said.
"We note that yesterday, July 24, the Romanian Ministry of Defense, SRI and MAI specialists began investigations at the first of three locations identified as possible crash zones in the vicinity of Plaur, Tulcea County, and identified the wreckage of a Geran1/2 UAV of Russian origin. The investigation will continue today to cover the entire area. We would like to clarify that all the places identified as possible impact zones are outside of populated areas, and infrastructure elements were not affected," the Romanian Defense Ministry said.
The Romanian Defense Ministry, as stated, "informed and informs allied structures in real time about the situation caused by the attacks, staying in constant contact with them".
"The Ministry of National Defense (of Romania) strongly condemns these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against certain objects and elements of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, which are unjustified and seriously contrary to international law," the statement said.
