The Verkhovna Rada has sent for a second reading a draft law on criminal liability for leaking information from state registers. The document provided for up to 8 years in prison for such violations during martial law.

The Verkhovna Rada failed to pass in the second reading a bill that would provide for a penalty of 8 years behind bars for leaking information from state registers of punishment. The document was sent for a second reading. About it writes UNN with reference to the people's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak and the card of the Bill No. 10242.

Details

"The Rada failed the off-scale Law No. 10242 on establishing criminal liability for unauthorized interference, sale or dissemination of information processed in public electronic registers. In general, only - 213. sent for a second second - 229, " - said Zheleznyak.

According to the draft law, it was planned to introduce a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of one to three years for publishing information from state registers during martial law.

The same penalty will be imposed for unauthorized sale or dissemination of information with restricted access that is stored in computers, automated systems, computer networks or on carriers of such information under martial law.

From six to eight years plans to punish for unauthorized actions with information that is processed in electronic computers (computers), automated systems, computer networks or stored on carriers of such information, committed by a person who has the right to access it under martial law.

In addition, Zheleznyak clarified that the bill contains a norm that provides for the return of confiscated property to persons who were detained for corruption and made deals with the investigation.

This bill was registered in November last year. In January 2024, it was adopted as a basis. In July of this year, the Rada tried to pass it in the second reading, but there were not enough votes and it was sent for a second reading.

On November 27, the relevant committee on law enforcement issues prepared the draft law for a second reading and recommended that the parliament adopt it in the second reading and as a whole as a law, in the version proposed by the committee, with the necessary technical and legal amendments.

Recall

The Verkhovna Rada adopted as a whole a draft law on agreements with the investigation, which allows in case of cooperation with the investigation through exposure of accomplices to impose a shorter prison term than required by the Criminal Code.
