Prosecutor General: Officially known about 3800 civilians who survived torture by occupiers

As of December 22, there are officially 3800 civilians who have survived torture by the occupiers, but the total number may be much higher, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said, UNN reports.

"Thousands of Ukrainian civilians remain illegally detained by Russia. As we approach Christmas, a time of hope and unity, we call on the world to remember them and join forces to ensure their release and return," Kostin wrote in the X.

According to him, as of today, there are officially 3,800 civilians who have survived the torture of the occupiers. But the total number may be much higher.

More than 1,100 criminal cases of torture are being investigated, and more than 80 suspects in these war crimes have been identified; 18 of them have already been convicted.

"We must act quickly and decisively to create an effective international mechanism to release illegally detained persons and bring to justice those who have committed crimes against them," Kostin added.

Police have identified the Russians who tortured four residents of the village of Zdvyzhivka, Kyiv region, during the occupation of the region in March 2022. The Russian military commander who gave the orders to torture the Ukrainians was notified of suspicion.
