Pope Leo XIV stated that he supports Real Madrid and will cheer for the US national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.
Details
It is noted that Leo XIV, born Robert Prevost, originally from the southern suburbs of Chicago (USA), served as a missionary and bishop in Peru for decades before becoming Pope.
Last year, Leo XIV said he would root for Peru over the US in any football matches. Peru did not qualify for this year's tournament, which "opened the papal blessing for the US team."
"I will definitely be rooting for the USA. I don't know how many games I'll be able to see, but I wish them all the best,"
When asked which of these teams — Real Madrid or Barcelona — he supports, Leo XIV replied after a short pause: "The Pope is for all teams. Prevost is for Real Madrid."
Recall
