Details
Poland has filed an application with the International Court of Justice requesting permission to join the case of Ukraine v. russia on charges of genocide under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
In its application, Poland points to its legal interest in the proper application of the Convention, in particular through its obligation to prevent violations of the Convention and restrictions on the provision of assistance to countries that commit genocide. Poland emphasizes that the allegations of genocide against Ukraine also affect its legal position as a state that provides significant assistance to Ukraine.
Poland refers to Articles 62 and 63 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice, which allow states to intervene in cases that may affect their legal interest.
