In Volyn, an attempt was made to sell a unique historical monument from the times of Kievan Rus through an online auction. UNN writes about this with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Details
In the Volyn region, after an investigation, the prosecutor's office found a unique monument - a carved stone slab of the 10th-13th centuries depicting a "Holy Warrior" from the period of Kievan Rus. An attempt was made to illegally sell the historical monument at an online auction.
The well-preserved stone slab depicting the "Holy Warrior," probably St. Dmytro, could have been a decoration of one of the churches of the Galicia-Volhynia principality. According to the director general of the National Museum of History of Ukraine, Doctor of Historical Sciences Fedir Androshchuk, no monuments of this level have been found in our country over the past century.
The unique find will be transferred to the National Museum of History of Ukraine for storage and research. Later, it will remain in the museum.
It has not yet been established who tried to sell the stove, but the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Criminal proceedings were opened over the misappropriation by a person of found or accidentally obtained property or treasure of another person that has special historical, scientific, artistic or cultural value (Part 1 of Article 193 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
