Western allies' support for Ukraine is saving lives, and it must continue. Russian President Vladimir Putin started this war and could end it today, but Ukraine does not have that choice. Surrender is not peace. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference on Monday with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on the occasion of Sweden's accession to the alliance, UNN reports.
Our support to Ukraine saves lives and it must continue. President Putin started this war and he could end it today but Ukraine does not have this option. Surrender is not peace
"We must continue to strengthen Ukraine to show President Putin that he will not get what he wants on the battlefield but must sit down and negotiate a solution where Ukraine is recognised and prevails as a sovereign, independent nation," the NATO Secretary General emphasized.
According to the Secretary General, in response to Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, "NATO has significantly increased our presence in the Alliance, and Sweden's membership further strengthens it." "When President Putin launched his full-scale invasion two years ago, he wanted less NATO and more control over his neighbors. He wanted to destroy Ukraine as a sovereign state. But he failed," Stoltenberg emphasized
"NATO is bigger and stronger. Ukraine is closer to NATO membership than ever before, and as brave Ukrainians continue to fight for their freedom, we stand by their side," the Secretary General said.
He noted that the allies continue to announce billions of dollars in new aid, including the largest aid package to Sweden, which includes ammunition, air defense, and combat boats.
