In November, 143 people died from an unknown disease in the province of Kwango in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Local authorities reported that the child had flu-like symptoms: a high fever and a severe headache. This is reported by UNN with reference to Reuters.
The medical team has already gone to the site to collect samples and conduct research to find out the cause of the disease.
According to local epidemiologists, women and children were most affected.
The World Health Organization (who) said it received information about the outbreak last week. Now its specialists are working together with the Ministry of health of the Congo to study the situation.
