In the temporarily occupied Mariupol, the situation with water supply is catastrophic due to the fact that the level of drinking water in the Starokrymske reservoir is rapidly decreasing, said Petro Andriushchenko, an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, reports UNN.

According to Andriushchenko, the shallowing of the reservoir has been gradually continuing since 2023, but since August 2024 it has been gaining critical speed. The problem is that the Starokrymske reservoir was not intended for the sustainable water supply of Mariupol and is a reserve. However, since the occupation, it has become the main one, the mayor's adviser pointed out.
Due to the lack of water from the main Siversky Donets channel, the increase in load on the infrastructure due to the massive migration of Russians, exacerbated by the incompetence of the occupation authorities, Mariupol will begin to experience a total problem with water supply as early as spring. The real level has decreased by no less than 4-5 meters just in the fall, according to local observations. The occupation authorities are silent.
According to him, a similar situation with water supply is in Berdyansk. The level of the Berdyansk reservoir continues to decline. Satellite data and fresh photos show the shallowing of the reservoir and the riverbed of the Berda River.
The water level began to drop sharply from September. According to reports from the occupation administration of Berdyansk, as of October 30, 2024, the depth of the reservoir was approximately 18.2 m.
As Andriushchenko pointed out, it is currently unknown how much the volume of water has decreased since then. However, judging by the natural traces of sediment on the rocks, the level has dropped by at least another 1 m - 1.5 m.
