The State Police and the State Border Guard in Latvia will check people who will come to the Russian Embassy to vote at the polling station to elect the President of the Russian Federation. The state wants to make sure that such people have legal grounds to stay in Latvia. This was announced by the head of the state police Armands Ruks, reports Delfi, according to UNN.

Admission to the embassy will be appropriately controlled by setting up checkpoints in cooperation with the State Border Guard Service, checking residence permits or visas,
The head of the state police noted that similar checks are carried out by the Russian special services when Latvian citizens come to polling stations in Russia.
He noted that if the police find violations of the rules of residence in Latvia during the checks, the country will initiate deportation procedures. To ensure that such procedures are followed properly, representatives of the Citizenship and Migration Board will be involved in the inspections.
Ruks also emphasized that during the Russian presidential election, the Latvian state police will work in a reinforced mode.
