The number of people injured in a car accident on the Brest-Lithuanian highway in Kyiv region has increased to eight. According to preliminary information, the culprit of the accident fell asleep at the wheel. UNN reports this with reference to the Kyiv police.
Reportedly, the driver of the MAN truck, moving toward Kyiv, collided with the rear of a passing Mercedes Sprinter minibus. The driver of the Mercedes, in turn, lost directional stability and collided with four foreign cars.
Eight passengers of a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, aged 26 to 83, were injured in the accident. The victims were hospitalized, their condition is currently being established
According to preliminary information, the culprit of the accident, a 53-year-old truck driver, was sober and fell asleep at the wheel. The police detained the offender in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
A criminal proceeding was initiated under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles. The article provides for up to eight years of imprisonment.
