Japan plans to revise its strict defense export rules to allow the sale of next-generation fighter jets developed jointly with the UK and Italy. This was reported by NHK, according to UNN.
Details
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan and its coalition partner, the Komei Party, agreed on Friday to change the rules under certain conditions. Each individual case of export, as well as exports to a third country, will require cabinet approval.
Exports will be limited to the next generation fighter jet. Fighter jets can only be sent to countries that have signed defense agreements with Japan and are not involved in armed conflicts.
The Cabinet of Ministers is expected to approve the plan later this month.
