A deputy of the city council in Bukovyna has been notified of suspicion of committing a fatal road accident while under the influence of alcohol, the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor's office said on Monday, UNN reports.

"The head of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office has served a notice of suspicion to a deputy of the Sokyryany City Council of violating traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused the victim's death and of leaving a person in a life-threatening condition without assistance (Part 3 of Article 286-1, Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the prosecutor's office said on Facebook.
According to the investigation, on March 29, 2024, around 20:00, in the town of Sokyryany, Dniester district, Chernivtsi region, "a local deputy, driving an Audi A6 while intoxicated, hit a 43-year-old woman who was walking towards a car with a bicycle equipped with reflective elements.
Reportedly, "the victim died on the spot from her injuries, and the driver fled the scene.
The suspect, according to the report, "was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail".
