It is noted that the 62-year-old Top Gun star was personally honored by US Secretary of the Navy Carlos del Toro. Cruise received a medal from his hands - coincidentally, with a blue and yellow ribbon.
In 1986, after the release of the first installment of the Cold War ace dilogy Top Gun, the US Navy saw such a large increase in volunteers that they even set up recruitment centers in movie theaters. The 2022 sequel also led to a surge in interest in military service.
