According to the head of the Federal Criminal Police Agency (BKA), Holger Münch, the motive of the attacker cannot yet be established with absolute certainty. However, there are no signs yet that it was an Islamist terrorist attack, he said on the ZDF TV channel.
Münch confirmed that the suspect was hostile to Islam and collaborated with right-wing extremist platforms.
"We see a completely atypical line of behavior, and we need to analyze it calmly," the BKA head added.
Meanwhile, police have released information about the five victims of the attack at the Christmas market. They are a 9-year-old boy and women aged 52, 45, 75 and 67. According to the WDR and NDR media companies, which cite sources in the investigation, more than 200 people were injured, and 41 victims are in serious condition.
