Google, in an effort to to restore the "data loss" that users have recently complained about, publishes a so-called "fix", and points to a "synchronization issue" with the desktop version of the app. Attempts to to "restore files" has created a new chain of questions on the Google Drive community forums, with users questioning whether the "fix" works, but Google blocked replies before the issue was resolved.

Details
After the recent increase in the number of complaints from users due to data loss in Google Drive cloud storage, Google has provided a recovery tool. The company claims that the loss of files was caused by a "synchronization issue" with the with the desktop version of the Drive program.
However, on the Google Drive community forums, users describe the disappearance of spreadsheets and spreadsheets and documents that were created and saved in the web interface, not in the desktop application; some claim to have never used the desktop application.

Google has not yet explained what exactly happened, but provided several ways to try to "recover files":
The first option: through a the new secret interface in the Google Drive desktop app version 85.0.13.0 or higher. If you hold down the Shift key while clicking on the Drive icon in the system tray/menu bar, you will get a special debugging interface with the option "Restore from backups". Google says: "After the restore is complete, a new folder with with unsynchronized files named Google Drive Recovery".
The second option: Use the Use the command line to recover files. The new binary file of the Drive contains the "-recover_from_account_backups" and "-recover_from_app_data_path" marks, which tell us what's going on. When Google first recognized the problem, it warned users not to delete or move the app data folder in Drive program. These signs of the recovery process give the impression that Google is hoping that the lost user files are somewhere in Drive's cache.
Reportedly, Google closed the problematic thread on the Drive community forums after 170 comments, before it became clear that the issue had been resolved. Of the few responses before before Google locked the thread, most assumed that Google's fix fix was not working. One user calls the fix "complete BS," adding: "'The solution' doesn't work for most people." Another said: "Google drive DELETED my files, so they are unrecoverable. This 'fix' is not a fix!" Є many other reports that the fix doesn't work, but some claim to have gotten their files back, that they got their files back.
As a reminder,
Previously, users of Google Drive users reported that their files had completely disappeared from the cloud service. Google acknowledged the issue in a new community support thread, explaining that it is affecting a "limited subset" of Google Drive users for desktop applications.
