Draft law No. 12222 has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes to reduce the age limit for military service and reserve to 55 years. This was reported by one of the initiators of the document, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, UNN reports.
I propose to reduce the age limit for military service and the reserve from 60 to 55 years. The corresponding draft law No. 12222 has already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada
The MP also explained why he believes it is necessary to pass the bill.
- Most men aged 55-60 are in poorer health, often recognized as “limitedly fit” and physically unable to perform all combat missions.
- Soldiers who have been serving since 2022, especially those who have been injured or have reached the age of 50+, need to be rotated or demobilized.
- Commanders note that “the army is getting older,” and older servicemen are not always able to perform certain combat tasks effectively.
- At the same time, those who want to continue their service will be able to do so at their own request.
According to the MP, this initiative is also supported by Ukrainians: a petition to reduce the maximum age of mobilization to 55 years has received 25 thousand votes, Goncharenko added.
