MEPs from Finland and Denmark have been accused of racist remarks after a vote on deportation centers. A complaint was filed with the President of the European Parliament over online harassment of a colleague of Iraqi origin.

Member of the European Parliament from Finland Sebastian Tynkkynen and his colleague from Denmark Kristoffer Storm found themselves at the center of a scandal over accusations of racist remarks and online harassment. A corresponding complaint was submitted to the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, reports Yle, writes UNN.

The incident occurred after a vote last week on the creation of deportation centers. After the vote, videos from the meeting hall spread online showing MEPs shouting "send them back."

MEP of Iraqi origin Abir Al-Sahlani stated on social media that she had never felt so unsafe in the European Parliament before.

According to Yle, after this, Tynkkynen in his Instagram account called on Al-Sahlani to "cry some more," and Storm advised the MEP of Iraqi origin to "go back home."

The head of the Renew Europe political group Valérie Hayer, who filed the complaint, stated that the remarks of both MEPs were racist in nature.

Al-Sahlani herself, who is also a member of Renew Europe, said she is considering taking the matter to court.

At the same time, Tynkkynen on social media X did not deny addressing his colleague but rejected accusations of threats against him.
