The heat in the summer affected the harvest, so vegetable prices are rising. The situation is also affected by inflation and the hryvnia/dollar exchange rate. The only thing that can stop further growth is the presence of imported products.  This was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk during a telethon, according to a correspondent of UNN.

If we are talking about vegetables, unfortunately, just like with cereals, the weather conditions in the summer, hot days, caused a lot of damage. In some places in the southeastern regions, when the temperature on the soil was more than 60 degrees, this led to a significant part of the crop being burnt out. Accordingly, we are reaping the consequences during the active phase, when it seemed that vegetables should be cheap, in the peak period of September-October, when they were harvested, but in fact we saw that due to the lack of quality supply, and demand within the country is quite high, prices went up

- Marchuk explained.

He noted that from November , the cold weather starts to get colder, so vegetables are put into storage systems and their storage becomes more expensive. Accordingly, this will also form the basis of the cost of products that will be put on store shelves.

In general, we add to these factors the inflation factor, which will be about 10% by the end of the year, the costs of the logistics system, the hryvnia/dollar exchange rate, and all of this forms the final product on store shelves and its price. Unfortunately, I cannot say that we will see a gradual reduction in price during this period. The only thing that can stop further growth is the presence of imported products, because starting in December we will start importing more products from warm regions and it can at least stop the price increase, as we will see this season

- Marchuk said.

AddendumAddendum

EastFruit project analysts reported that cucumbers have been rising in price in Ukraine for four weeks in a row. Producers offer greenhouse cucumbers at prices ranging from 90 to 115 UAH/kg, which is on average 13% more expensivethan a week earlier.

EastFruit project analysts also noted that the cost of quality carrots in Ukraine increased by 12% over the week and amounts to 18-25 UAH/kg. Prices for the root vegetable have increased due to active purchases by wholesalerswho store carrots for storage and by the population, which forms stocks for the winter.
