Dozens of European countries, including members of the European Union, have approved the UK's plan to impose restrictions on the “shadow fleet” of tankers, which London believes Russia is using to circumvent the price ceiling for oil and oil products imposed by Western countries after the start of hostilities in Ukraine. This was announced by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Bloomberg reports, UNN writes.
Details
According to Starmer, the joint call to action will affect 600 tankers, which, according to Western countries, Moscow uses to transport about 1.7 million barrels of oil per day.
The British prime minister said that this would send a “clear message” to those who help Russia evade sanctions, and these tankers would not be able to “sail freely through European waters and put our security at risk.
Bloomberg previously wrote that the measures are aimed at sharing information about the Russian fleet to coordinate actions.
